The first of Whistler Housing Authority's new builds is nearly ready for residents. WHA took occupancy of the building Dec. 6, and hopes to be moving tenants in by as early as next weekend (Dec 15).

Located at 1310 Cloudburst Dr. in Cheakamus, the building has a total of 27 units; 23 two-bedrooms and four one-bedrooms. The WHA has been targeting families, so about 60 per cent of tenants will be families, many with children. The building is already at full occupancy. In total, around 75 people will be living in the building.

Single-bedroom units are approximately 700 sq. ft., while two-bedroom units are under 900 sq. ft.

Each unit has an individual storage unit out front, for skis, snowboards, mountain bikes or any other equipment crucial to Whistler life. Rent is $1300/month for a single bedroom and $1700/month for two and includes utilities. There are also two wheelchair-accessible units.

This is the first of four WHA affordable builds to be completed in the coming years. The next housing units to be finished will be the senior housing project in Rainbow and a Passivhaus apartment building just down the road on Legacy Way. Both builds are at a similar stage and are slated for completion in the winter of 2018.
