Mt. Currie man fined $5,000 for trafficking wildlife meat

Two year ban on hunting also imposed

A Mt. Currie man was fined a total of $5,000 in penalties for trafficking in wildlife meat last week in Pemberton Provincial Court.

David Lepine pleaded guilty on April 26 to a total of three counts under the Wildlife Act. Lepine was initially charged in July 2006 after an investigation by South Coast region Conservation officers and the Conservation Officer Service’s Special Investigations Unit.

In addition to the fines Lepine was prohibited from hunting for two years.

The maximum penalty for a first offence conviction under the B.C. Wildlife Act is $50,000 or a six-month jail term, or both.
