More than 200 stakeholders from the mountain bike industry are in Creekside to discuss how to best manage the sport they love.
The 2019 Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium will run Thursday and Friday and features speakers discussing everything from mountain biking in grizzly bear country and protecting sensitive ecosystems to protecting bike trails through proper branding and the role of research in the industry.
As well, with Whistler serving as host, our community's success is up for discussion, as Whistler Mountain Bike Park's Wendy Robinson, Resort Municipality of Whistler chief administrative officer Mike Furey, Whistler Off Road Cycling Association president Dale Mikkelsen, Whistler Bike Guides' Grant Lamont and Tourism Whistler president and CEO Barrett Fisher will sit on a panel about the Whistler's status as the centre of the mountain biking universe.
Other speakers include: Dr. Lana Ciarniello, IMBA Canada's Justin Darbyshire, Cascade Environmental Resource Group's Todd Hellinga, Origin Design's Danielle Kristmanson, Walt Judas of the Tourism Industry Association of BC, MLA Jordan Sturdy and Chelsey Walker of the Whistler Adaptive Sports Program.
