Municipality recognized for sustainability initiative

The work of the Early Adopters of the Natural Step in Whistler has been recognized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

"This award recognizes the hard work and commitment to sustainability by all the Early Adopters," said Mayor Hugh O'Reilly.

"We're honoured to receive the Sustainable Community Award from such a prestigious national organization."

The FCM has awarded Whistler their Sustainable Community Award in the category for excellence in municipal service delivery that has contributed to community development.

This award was established two years ago and promotes municipal leadership in championing sustainable community development.

Whistler. It's Our nature is a community-wide initiative by the Early Adopters to promote and develop sustainable practices.

The Early Adopters are the RMOW, Tourism Whistler, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Whistler-Blackcomb, Whistler's Fotosource and AWARE.

Councillors Stephanie Sloan and Ken Melamed will accept the award on behalf of the municipality on Friday, May 31, in Hamilton, Ont.
