Chicago soul at Garfs
Chicagos DJ Heather, a veteran turntablist of 15 years, brings her soulful, head-bobbing house to Garfinkels Tuesday, Feb. 7.
The international DJ of Blackcherry Recordings was the first African-American woman to spin in Capetown, South Africa.
A woman of many firsts, the producer/turntablist has worked with luminaries Brett Johnson, Greenskeepers and Slater Hogan, just to name a few.
Tickets are $10. Doors 9 p.m.
Punked apparitions
"They are the best of Sparta meets the best of Mars Volta," raved Chris Nelson of MuchMusic about the Regina punk rockers Ghosts of Modern Man, which joins Sylvie and Mothra for this Sundays Punk Night, Feb. 5 at the Boot Pub.
Originally under the moniker Pillar, Ghosts of Modern Man have extended their Saskatchewan fan base from coast to coast, logging up to 200 shows per year under their tour van.
Everyone is as Terrified as You Are
is their debut album, but expect plenty of new material for this Mondays show with the roadies turning into a recording studio in the near future.Even with a mish mash of influences, including PJ Harvey, Hot Snakes, Radiohead and Gang of Four, an honest and direct approach unites the bands unique vibe.
