After 21 years at Myrtle Philip School, seven of those as principal, Sharon Broatch is leaving to take over the reins at Pemberton's Signal Hill Elementary School.

"The staff, parents and children of Myrtle Philip are my family and I am very sad to be leaving them," said Broatch, who has lived in Whistler since 1986.

"But I am excited to take on a new challenge and am looking forward to working with the great team and community at Signal Hill."

Before teaching in Whistler Broatch had taught in both Burnaby, B.C., and Manitoba. Both her daughters are graduates of Whistler Secondary School.

The announcement was made May 10 by Sea to Sky School District superintendent Lisa McCullough.

"Ms. Broatch has worked tirelessly over many years to create a tight sense of community and family at Myrtle Philip Community School. So, although excited about the challenge of taking on another school, Ms. Broatch will deeply miss her school family."

The Board will be seeking input into the selection of a new principal in the coming months.

Signal Hill's principal, Lisa Bartlett, will take over the role of principal at Spring Creek Community School. She has been principal at Signal Hill for the past three years and was vice-principal for two years before that.

Spring Creek Community School principal Karen Saenger will become vice-principal at Brackendale Elementary, as she continues to pursue her Master's Degree.
