Nadeau steps down as chamber interim president

Board will begin search when organizational review complete

John Nadeau is stepping down as interim president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce next week after assuming the position in October of 2004.

According to Nadeau, he will pursue a new career opportunity that has presented itself within the Whistler community, but was not yet at liberty to say what that opportunity is.

"John has been an excellent leader and spokesperson for the Whistler Chamber during his brief tenure," said Greg Newton, chair of the board of directors.

Nadeau’s last day is July 29.

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce is currently undergoing an organizational review to better determine its role in the community, as well as qualifications and job duties of its administrators.

In September the board of directors was set to seek a new president to fill the new job description, and lead the organization through its next phase leading up to the 2010 Olympic Games. The next phase will include programs to involve local businesses in Olympic and Paralympic opportunities, while continuing to improve the visitor experience through more educational and resort service programs.

The Chamber of Commerce board of directors will meet next week to discuss the situation, and whether it’s necessary to hire another interim president while waiting for the organizational review.

The Whistler Chamber of Commerce represents 740 members from Whistler businesses, operates a visitor information centre and employment resource centre, and administers the Spirit Program and Whistler Card program for locals.

In addition, the chamber also runs educational programs for Whistler businesses and workers, including the Whistler Manager Workshop Series, the SuperHost Series for front line employees, Food Safe programs for restaurant and bar workers, and first aid courses.
