Walk on the wild side Whistler’s Parks and Recreation department is offering a walk on the wild side every weekend through the summer, and it doesn’t involve nightclubs or extreme sports. Each Saturday and Sunday morning Parks and Recreation staff are leading nature walks through the Lost Lake area, examining wildflowers, tree species and discussing wildlife in the Whistler area. Information on medicinal uses of local plants and an overview of native history in the area are also discussed. The walks last approximately 2 1/2 hours, leaving from the information kiosk in Village Square at 10 a.m. The walks follow the nature trails through Lost Lake, rather than the high-traffic trails through the park. The nature walks were started this summer in response to Whistler Resort Association surveys last summer which showed a demand for nature tours. Anyone interested in joining one of the nature walks is asked to show up at the information kiosk at 9:45 a.m. The cost of the tours is $12 for adults and $8 for teens; children 12 and under are free. The walks continue each Saturday and Sunday to Sept. 6.
