Neil Falkner Memorial putting tournament this Saturday

Funds go towards Outward Bound scholarship program

Most of all Neil Falkner is remembered for his lively sense of humour and for his get up and go. Whatever the plan was, Neil was up for it and would find ways to make the day it memorable.

The consensus among family and friends is that Neil would have really enjoyed the Neil Falkner Memorial Putting tournament, held each year in his honour. Falkner died ski touring in the Rockies in 2002 at the age of 32.

Now in its third year, the putting tournament was created by Neil’s Whistler friends as a way to raise money for the Neil Falkner Memorial Fund. Every year the fund offers an Outward Bound scholarship to a student at Neil’s old high school, Britannia Secondary in East Vancouver, and, starting this summer, to a student from Whistler Secondary. Neil himself was an Outward Bound graduate, and his experiences there were a pivotal turning point in his life.

The tournament takes place this Saturday, June 4, at Riverside Putting Greens. The festivities get underway at 1 p.m. with a round of the course, followed by an afternoon barbecue and social. There will also be a silent auction with great prizes.

The cost is $30, which covers the round of putting, the barbecue, and access to the beer garden. There will also be a few prizes for participants.

Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy a fun afternoon and help raise money for a good cause.
