A new gallery featuring contemporary Canadian art is set to open in the Fairmont Chateau Whistler on Dec. 6.

The Gallery at Chateau Whistler will be under the direction of painter Wendy Wacko, who also directs The Gallery at the Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alta, and is represented as an artist at the Scott Gallery in Edmonton.

Wacko says she will be bringing in works from the top 10

performers in Jasper. The inaugural exhibition will feature a selection of the new work by Maureen Enns, celebrated for her bold,

bear-themed paintings.

Wacko says she’s especially excited about the design of the new gallery. The space will feature innovative, moving walls that can be

customized to exhibitions of large, bold works like those by Enns or smaller, more intimate works.

Featured works will be contemporary Canadian in a variety of media. Along with paintings, Wacko says she will include glass, clay and bronze works.

"Our clientele is primarily international because we’re with the Chateau Whistler, so what I’m trying to do is show our international guests a cross section of the very best in fine art we have to offer in Canada," says Wacko.
