After 15 years on the job Capilano Highway Services will no longer take care of the roads and bridges in the Sea to Sky corridor.

The Ministry of Transportation awarded a 10-year contract agreement to Mainroad Contracting Ltd. after its proposal was rated the highest of three proposals received by the ministry.

Mainroad Contracting currently performs highway maintenance in the Lower Mainland service area. The company has offered all unionized employees at Capilano Highways jobs with the new company to retain local knowledge of the roads, ensure employment stability and provide for a smooth switch over.

The 10-year contract took effect on Oct. 26.

Contract details, including the price, will be available once all road and bridge maintenance contracts are awarded throughout the province during the next two years.
