New contest brings 2010 bid to youth

To make local kids more aware of the Vancouver-Whistler bid to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the bid committee is holding a contest designed to test their knowledge.

Each week, for the month of November, school children in the Sea to Sky Corridor communities will be asked a question about the Olympic Winter Games or Paralympic Games. The answer will be found in the 2010 Bid News columns in Pique Newsmagazine and other corridor papers.

"This contest provides us with an opportunity to help children – some of whom may represent Canada at the Winter Games in 2010 – learn more about the history of the Olympic Winter and Paralympic Games," says board chair Marion Lay.

Contest entry forms will be distributed to schools throughout the corridor for all students in Kindergarten through Grade 7. All complete entries will be placed in a draw and the winners will be randomly selected.

Draw prizes will be supplied by the 2010 Bid Corporation, Whistler-Blackcomb, the Squamish A&W, The Resort Municipality of Whistler and the Brennan Park Leisure Centre. All contest participants will receive a certificate.

The deadline for entries in Dec. 5.
