A new emergency fund has been created to support people in need in the Whistler and Pemberton areas.
The fund, managed by the Community Foundation of Whistler and created from a donation of $8,858.61 by the Whistler Workers Cup Society, will benefit individuals who have suffered a loss due to an emergency. It will be controlled by the CFOW, which currently manages over $2.1 million in 22 funds.
"One of the benefits of creating a permanent home for the fund with the CFOW means that systems will be in place to respond promptly when an emergency occurs," said Nancy Wilhelm-Morden, CFOW past-president. "Thus, leaving community members free to focus on supporting victims rather than worrying about the financial management aspects of handling donations."
Applications to the CFOW Emergency Fund may be made at any time during the year by anyone in Whistler or Pemberton who has experienced loss due to illness or other personal emergency. Donations can also be made at any time. However, in the event of a larger emergency, donation drop-offs will be identified.
The Whistler Workers Cup was originally set up in the early 1980s to assist in emergency situations for Whistler workers and their families. Fundraising originated with an annual ski race, but has now extended to include golf tournaments.
