New faces for local team

Jibber, halfpipe star on 2005-06 roster
abyline

Two of Whistler’s top snowboarders will be taking a little piece of Whistler with them on the road this year, as the newest members of the Whistler-Blackcomb Pro Team.

Created to promote safety and excellence on the slopes and home, and to wear the Whistler-Blackcomb logo when elsewhere, the team has included some of the top skiers and snowboarders in the world.

The new members are Leanne Pelosi, who is probably the top female jibber in the world right now, and Jusin Lamoureux, who won the silver medal for halfpipe at the 2005 FIS World Snowboard Championships.

Pelosi won six pro competitions in 2004, and was named TransWorld Snowboarding’s Rookie of the Year. She topped that last season with eight wins, and was selected as both the Reader’s Choice and Rider of the Year by TransWorld.

Lamoureux seems to enter every pro contest within a 2,000 square kilometre radius, and always does well. He’s focusing more on halfpipe, but has credentials in almost every discipline. He broke his ankle freeriding last year, but is back in the hunt for the podium leading up to the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Current members of the 2005-06 pro team are:

Skiers

Mike Douglas ("Godfather" of new school skiing, big mountain skier)

Mark Abma (pro freerider)

Hugo Harrison (Big mountain skier, three time IFSA world champion)

Britt Janyk (Canadian Alpine Ski Team)

Snowboarders
