New faces join Tourism Whistler board

AGM set for May 20

Three new faces are joining Tourism Whistler’s board of directors in June.

Victor Burt, general manager of the Westin Resort & Spa, will replace David Demers as the hotel-lodging director. John Richmond will hold the position of non-hotel lodging director, replacing Christopher Ford, and Patrick McCurdy will be the new director-at-large, taking over from Scott Carrell.

Paul Tormey, general manager at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, will keep his position as director representing single owner hotel lodging.

The newcomers will assume their elected positions for two years.

In a press release issued this week, Tourism Whistler thanked the outgoing board members for their contributions and commitment to Tourism Whistler and welcomed the newcomers.

All three positions were gained by acclamation after the board nomination period closed March 11. Because of this there will be no election of directors prior to Tourism Whistler’s annual general meeting. The AGM is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at the Telus Conference Centre.

At that time Tourism Whistler members will receive the financial statements of the organization and the report from the auditor. They will also be asked to vote on two resolutions that will amend Tourism Whistler’s bylaws.

After the AGM the community will be invited to the organization’s annual open house where people can review the current and upcoming marketing and sales initiatives as well as Tourism Whistler’s accomplishments of the past year.
