After its most successful summer of competitive swimming ever, the Whistler Swim Club dives into the new season on Monday, Sept. 24 at Meadow Park.

Brandi Higgins, the current masters coach, was appointed Head Coach of the new club. She has recruited a pool of top coaches and swimmers to ensure that the kids get the most out of their swimming, whether their aspirations are recreational or competitive.

If they want to compete, the club has forged close ties with Swim B.C., training and competing with the West Vancouver Otters, and the B.C. Summer Swimming Association, working with the Squamish Pirates organization.

The goal of the new club is to attract and cater to different kinds of swimmers – recreational swimmers who are looking for a low impact cardiovascular workout and want to improve their swimming, triathletes, competitive swimmers, and those people who are just in it for the fun and exercise.

One of Brandi’s coaching goals is to improve swimmers’ strokes and cardiovascular fitness. To achieve this, the club has a weekly schedule of one hour practices, with 15 minutes of stretching, two or three times each week. There are three 12-week sessions planned, with the fall session running from Sept. 24 to Dec. 14, the winter session running from Jan. 7 to March 27, and the spring session running from April 3 to June 21. Depending on interest, the club may also run a summer camp.

You can register at the front desk, by dropping in on Sept. 24, or by contacting Jon at 604-932-0296. There is also a drop-in rate of $5 for individual sessions.
