WSSF boosting hotel numbers

If hotel reservations can measure the success of the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, then this year things are looking a little better compared to 2001.

Comparing last weekend's reservation pace to 2001, hotel occupancies were at 76.7 per cent this year compared to 75.6 per cent last year. This is even more significant considering the first weekend of the 2001 WSSF was over Easter.

The reservation pace for the second Saturday of the festival is almost on par with last year. 2001 figures are at 64.8 per cent and this year the figures are at 61.1 per cent so far.

CSIA certifying next week

For promising ski instructors who want to take the next step in their certification, the Canadian Ski Instructor's Alliance (CSIA) will host certification courses for Levels 2, 3, and 4 at Whistler next week.

The last time CSIA was in Whistler and offering all four levels of certification simultaneously was 1989.

From April 22 to 26, ski instructors have the chance to gain CSIA Certification (Level 2), CSIA International Certification (Level 3) and CSIA Senior Ski Instructor's Certification (Level 4).

For those who do not have their Level 1, this is also the last chance this season to get certified.

The cost to attend the Level 1 course is $380 ($265 for Whistler-Blackcomb staff). Applicants must be 16 years old and able to ski a strong parallel turn. The Level 1 course runs from April 23 to 26 on Whistler Mountain. For more information call 1-800-766-0449 to register or visit any ski and snowboard sales desk.
