Paddling company to support fisheries stewardship

The Whistler Outdoor Experience Company will pledge $1 to the Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group (WFSG) for every boat that goes down the River of Golden Dreams during the 2001 season, and possibly for longer.

With the low snow levels in the alpine this spring, the company says the need to monitor and control traffic down the river has become a reality.

"We realize the value of the resource and the realistic precautions that must be in place to ensure the vitality and long term health of our lakes, rivers and streams," said company president Tim Malone.

The money is earmarked for the WFSG’s ongoing educational programs and projects.

In addition, the company says they will adhere to any closures that may be placed on the river due to low water levels, and they challenge other operators to do the same.

Hotel management shuffle

Bruce Wienberg, the general manager of the Coast Whistler Hotel, is leaving to become vice-president and general manager of Whistler Premier Resort Accommodations and The Blackcomb Lodge – Whistler’s third largest rental management company. He will assume his new duties on May 7.

Prior to joining the Coast Whistler in 1998, Wienberg was the GM and Director of Sales and Marketing for the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Whistler. In 1995, he was the director of operations for Whistler Chalets.

The new GM for the Coast Whistler is Stacy Manning, formerly the director of sales and marketing for the hotel. This is her first position as general manager. Prior to joining the hotel she worked for Powder Properties.
