Squamish to remember RCMP officer

The Squamish community will remember and honour the life of RCMP Constable Wael Audi at a memorial service this Saturday.

Audi, 29, died last Friday afternoon when a passenger bus collided with his police cruiser. The accident happened on Highway 99, 10 kilometres north of Squamish. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined but witnesses say Audi was heading south when he switched his lights on and turned left across two northbound lanes. The bus hit Audi's cruiser on the driver's door. He was pronounced dead at Squamish Hospital less than one hour after the accident.

The memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at Howe Sound Secondary School.

The community will remember Audi's contributions as a community youth liaison officer, school liaison officer with Mamquam Elementary and founder of the Youth Community Volleyball league. Audi was originally from Brantford, Ontario and had been stationed at the Squamish detachment since completing his basic training in Regina in 1996.
