Furry Creek sold
Furry Creek is not to be left behind in the flurry of development and speculation in the Sea to Sky corridor.
The real estate company Goddard & Smith announced a $7.1 million sale this week of 630 acres of developable land. The land marks the last of the 1,036 acre parcel that includes the Furry Creek Golf Course, 75 single family residential lots and 25 acres of waterfront land known as Oliver Landing.
"We predict that this transaction will be the start of an interesting new development phase for the Sea to Sky corridor," said Greg McPhie, president of Goddard & Smith.
The land was bought by a numbered company.
"The new owners bring a fresh approach to one of the most exciting and scenic development sites on the west coast."
The land was originally listed for sale over $8.7 million.
Tanac Development Canada, which originally developed the Furry Creek area in the mid-90s, declared bankruptcy in June 2001.
Record year for NSCU
It’s been a year of significant growth in many sectors for the North Shore Credit Union. Net earnings increased 51 per cent to $6.7 million this year compared to $4.5 million the previous year. The total assets under their administration rose to $1.2 billion after a 24 per cent increase in 2002. The growth momentum is also reflected in the 16 per cent increase in total membership.
But it wasn’t just the bottom line increasing. NSCU giving in 2002 also increased by 17 per cent and the recipients of that charity included the Whistler Library & Museum, Whistler Cops for Cancer Fundraiser, Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association and Whistler Children’s Choir.

Lonsdale presented with Golden Jubilee award
Golden Jubilee medals were bestowed on worthy B.C. citizens this week in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign for the past 50 years. The medals were presented to 112 citizens for outstanding contributions to their communities, province or country, either through their careers or through volunteer work.
Lieutenant Governor. Iona Campagnolo and Premier Gordon Campbell presented the awards. Among the honoured recipients was Corinne Lonsdale, former mayor of Squamish, Kerrin Lee-Gartner, Olympic gold medal skier from Fernie, Wayne Campbell, conservationist and ornithologist from Victoria and Alison Sydor, Olympic mountain bike medallist from North Vancouver.
