IN-5A (chris woodall) The Ted came back Ted Nebbeling will be guest speaker at the Whistler Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting, Wednesday, March 18. This will be the first time the Liberal MLA has spoken to the Chamber since his election to the B.C. Legislature in 1996. Nebbeling will talk about his own and the Legislature's activities during the last session. The 1998 sitting of the Legislature is due to begin soon. "This timely appearance will afford those in attendance with the opportunity to ask questions about expected legislation," says Chamber executive director Thelma Johnstone. Held at the Wildflower Restaurant, Chateau Whistler, reservations are required; call 932-5922. 'Green' author at library Ric Careless has come out of the environmental trenches to read from and discuss his work "To save the wild earth: Field notes from the environmental frontline" at the Whistler Public Library, Tues., March 31. The evening event starts at 7:30. Tatshenshini, Spatsizi, Nitinat, Purcell Wilderness, and Height of the Rockies: these are just some of the wilderness campaigns Careless has fought in B.C. during the past 25 years. From his firsthand account to save 5.5 million acres of wilderness for future generations, Careless's book demonstrates that wild places are Canadian and international treasures. When he's not on book tour, Careless is executive director of B.C. Spaces for Nature, a wilderness preservation organization. He has been awarded Environmentalist of the Year (1991), River Conservationist of the Year (1993), and the Order of British Columbia (1994). For more information, call the library (932-5564). Walking with Art "Some people think art is just a nickname for 'Arthur'," a famous Toronto painter has said. You can think otherwise once you take the Morning Art Walk, every Tuesday at 11 a.m. among the art galleries in the Delta Whistler Resort Hotel. The walk is a chance for Whistler visitors — and others seeking to expand their aesthetic — to learn about art, how to go about looking for a piece to buy, and become acquainted with featured Canadian and West Coast artists. The Gallery Row — Whistler Village Art Gallery, Northern Lights Gallery and the adele-campbell Fine Art Gallery — displays a wide range of works: canvas works, sculpture, and glass pieces. It's a great way to make new friends over a cuppa. And it's free. Call Melinda Gram at 938-3001 for more information, or just go: downstairs of the Whistler Mountain side of the Delta lobby level. Strokes for folks A one-night course in Chinese brush painting is offered Mon., March 23, 7-9 p.m. for those interested in trying their hand at the delicate oriental art. Gentle strokes of black ink on white rice paper form bamboo leaves and stalks, with orchids bending in the breeze. No experience is needed. The course is $21 before March 21. Supplies are extra. Call Roxanne at 905-4777 for more information. In your dreams A workshop to explore what those crazy dreams mean is being held Sat., March 28 from 1-5 p.m. at the Chateau Whistler.
