Society gets an office The Whistler Skiers Chapel Society will soon have an office base for its fund-raising campaign.

Society gets an office The Whistler Skiers Chapel Society will soon have an office base for its fund-raising campaign. A construction office style trailer will be berthed at the Blackcomb Way site of the chapel society's future home within two weeks, says newly-hired campaign administrator Jami Fidork. The trailer was donated by Britco and will be finished off with wood siding, Fidork says. "It'll look quite nice." The society hopes to raise $3.1 million to fulfil plans for a new multi-denominational chapel and community centre. A fund-raising committee and honorary board has been selected. Volunteers are seen as an integral part of the fund-raising campaign's success. Although more than 40 have signed up to help out in various capacities, the chapel society is keen to have more helping hands. Call Fidork at 938-1544. The old chapel, located at Lake Placid Road and Highway 99, will have to be moved soon to make way for Intrawest's Whistler Station development. Relive Whistler's media moments The media relations wing of the Whistler Resort Association is inviting WRA members to explore all the media exposure Whistler got as a result of the Royal visit and Ross Rebagliati's gold medal race and homecoming celebration. Topics will include a summary of recent TV coverage in the U.S. and Europe. The meeting runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 25, in the McGuire Room of the Whistler Conference Centre. Breakfast is provided to WRA members, but you must pre-register by April 20. For more information, call Connie Rabold (938-2706). Explore Pemberton businesses Pemberton's first trade fair will prove that the rural village's business community is diverse and thriving. Co-sponsored by the Pemberton & District Chamber of Commerce, the Pemberton Recreation Commission and Mountain FM, the trade fair has more than 45 store-front or home-based entrants who will be showing off what they're all about, Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Pemberton Community Centre. A fashion show is at 1 p.m. The area's 4-H Club will have a concession booth to keep the tummy happy. Among the businesses participating will be area doctors and therapists, Coastal Mountain Airways, the Community Futures program, makers of children’s clothes, beauty care goods and services providers, sporting goods makers and retailers, dressmakers, potters and crafts people, furniture makers, trades people, and representatives form the agricultural and forestry industries. The B.C. Mining Museum will be on hand, too. Product demonstrations will tweak the imagination through the day. Best of all, admission is free. "I'm pretty pleased with the response," says Shirley Henry, who'd like you to call her for more details (894-6477). Internet access for students Howe Sound district school students will be part of a $123 million provincial plan to hook up the province's public schools, colleges and institutes through the internet. The 'net link, called PLNet, will increase the range of K-12 courses available to students in remote and small schools, the province says. "We will also get access to this network, but we don't know the time line when it will happen," says school board secretary-treasurer Nancy Edwards. It is likely some schools in the district will get on the 'net, but maybe not all of them, depending on costs, Edwards says. Initial connections will be at the end of May with completion in two years.
