Movin' on up The Chateau Whistler is saying bon voyage to Laura Fairweather, director of public relations, who is moving "home" to Toronto to be director of communications at CP Hotels' head office. Moving on up to fill Laura's Whistler job is Sonya Hwang, who takes on the title of manager of public relations. Fairweather has been at the Chateau for 2.5 years. She will report to Ann Layton, vice-president public affairs & communications. Teamwork on the links The Western Businesswomen's Association is holding its annual golf event, June 24, as a best ball format that gets each foursome working together. If you're not sure which end of the club is up, a group lesson will be provided by the Whistler Golf Club pro. Fees for the evening event are $50 for WBA members, $60 for non-members. Spuds on legs Hot foot it up to Pemberton for the first Canada Day Pemberton Spud Valley Road Race, a 7 km running event that can earn you — surprise, surprise — a bag of spuds as a prize. Megeney joins technical team Allison Megeney of Whistler Village Orthopaedic and Sports Physiotherapy Clinic has been invited to join the Canadian Alpine Ski Team’s women’s World Cup technical team as its full-time physiotherapist. Megeney will leave Whistler in July to attend training camps preparing for the October-April World Cup season. "We wish Allison all the best and look forward to her return and many great stories about her adventures," says Lisa Kyte of the clinic. Two sports in one Ski in the morning, golf in the afternoon: that's the plan for a two-day package offered by Whistler/Blackcomb called Ski & Golf Esprit. For a mere $549, guests can ski Horstman glacier, getting "full motion learning" ski instruction on both mornings. Then it's off to the links at either Nicklaus North or the Whistler Golf Club, complete with golf clinic, caddie and lunch.
