Library too popular An August survey by the Whistler Public Library shows library users like what is there — but they want more. A vast majority of the 634 library users surveyed over a five-day period recommended that the library hours be extended from the present 28 hours per week. The number of library users in August continued the year's growth trend. Library visits are projected to double to almost 50,000, from last year's total. The new, more visible location is a key factor in the growth. The increased demand has come at a cost: staff and operating budgets are both stretched to the limit. As one means of increasing funding the library will be purchasing 10 new cedar chairs for use in the building. The chairs are up for "adoption" at $350 each. The chairs will remain in the library but with a plaque on the back, dedicating the chair in the words of the adopter's choice. To adopt a chair drop by the library or call 932-5564. WRA AGM Saturday The Whistler Resort Association's annual general meeting is this Saturday, Sept. 23, in the gymnasium at Myrtle Philip Community School. Three corridor residents ride for life Whistler's Ken Quon and Ken McDowell and Weasel Worker Chris Pereverzoff of Squamish were among the 300 cyclists from across B.C. who participated in the B.C. Lung Association's Bicycle Trek for Life & Breath Sept. 9-10. Cyclists raised more than $210,000 for the Lung Association by riding 200 kilometres through the Fraser Valley and Washington state over the two days. Chamber goes on line The Whistler Chamber of Commerce now has an e-mail address: chamber@whistler.net. The address is intended to improve communications between members and the chamber office.
