Swap a shot in the arm The Whistler Mountain Ski Club’s annual ski swap is this weekend in the conference centre. Skis, boots, boards, clothing and accessories will be available — as will flu shots. The Travel Medicine & Vaccination Centre will have a booth in the Atrium of the conference centre today and Saturday (Nov. 3 and 4) where they will be providing flu vaccination clinics. The cost is $15. The Coast Garibaldi Health Unit has provided free flu vaccinations for high risk individuals. A Minnesota research team found that working adults who received flu vaccine had 25 per cent fewer cases of flu than those who got a placebo. Over a six-month period, those who were vaccinated took 43 per cent fewer days of sick leave and made 44 per cent fewer visits to the doctor. The results of the study were published earlier this year in the New England Journal of Medicine. The flu season typically begins in early November. The flu vaccine becomes effective about two weeks after immunization and lasts for about six months. Courier co-op pursuing options Corridor Transportation Systems Co-op is pursuing options that will keep the co-operative in business, but founding member Al Battrick says there won’t be anything to announce until at least next week. The courier co-op was shut down late last week after receiving a cease and desist order from the Motor Carrier Commission. Corridor Transportation Systems doesn’t have a licence to transport goods, which the Motor Carrier Commission says is required of couriers. Al and Victoria Battrick’s courier company was shut down by the commission last spring for not having a licence. They then formed a co-operative and re-opened for business. Only goods belonging to members of the co-op were transported. Corridor Transportation Systems Co-op had reached 140 members just prior to receiving the cease and desist order.
