Monday, Feb. 19, is Heritage Day and the Whistler Museum and Archives is celebrating by inviting everyone to come by between 7 and 9 p.m. Museum staff and board members will be dressed in period costumes, from ’70s ski wear to lumberjack fashions from the ’50s. The museum is inviting people to look in their basements and dig out any sports equipment or artifacts from earlier periods and bring them by the museum Monday evening. The People’s Law School and the Whistler Public Library are offering a free legal seminar on Women and the Law on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Local lawyer Nancy Wilhelm-Morden will be giving an overview of some of the legal issues of significance to women, including women’s rights regarding legal and common law marriage, separation and divorce, financial matters, property rights in a relationship, pensions and credit ratings. Space is limited so pre-registration by Feb. 19 is required. Drop by the library or call 932-5564. The seminar will be at the library from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 20. A series of free public workshops on watershed stewardship for the Howe Sound area will be held in Whistler, Squamish, Lions Bay, West Vancouver, Bowen Island, Gambier Island, Gibsons and Sechelt in April and May. The Howe Sound Watershed Stewardship Project is aimed at anyone interested in understanding watersheds and their importance to long-term regional sustainability. The workshops will also help residents of the region develop strategies for sustainable living, including understanding regulations, integrated planning and guidelines for protecting watersheds. The project is funded by Environment Canada’s Environmental Citizenship Office, the B.C. Conservation Public Assistance Fund, VanCity Community Action and the GVRD Electoral Area C.
