Council last week approved a 1996 capital equipment budget of $100,000 for Parks and Recreation, including more than $36,000 in budget requests for the pool and fitness centre "predominantly related to design deficiencies and poor workmanship that occurred during construction." The squash courts and fitness centre will close from May 10 to 17 for cleaning and upgrading of ventilation. The arena will reopen May 30 for three weeks of drop in roller hockey, in-line skating and skateboarding, before summer ice hockey and figure skating resume. The steering committee examining proposals to develop Brohm Ridge as a ski area has asked both proponents to submit additional information by April 26. Also, Grand Adex Resorts and Garibaldi Alpen will both make formal presentations to the steering committee by May 23. After that the committee may submit one, both or none of the proposals for a technical review. Sometime after that, one of the proponents may be invited to enter into an interim agreement for the development of the area. The steering committee consists of representatives of the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, the District of Squamish, the B.C. Investment Office and the Ministry of Lands.
