A joint feasibility study prepared for the Whistler Museum and Archives Society and the Whistler Public Library will be presented on Tuesday, June 18 at 1 p.m. in municipal council chambers. The museum and library boards commissioned Lord Planning and Management to study the feasibility of a joint museum/library facility on the site of the present temporary facilities. Earlier this year the library and museum boards announced their intention to join forces and build a three-storey building on Lot 21 in Village North. The bottom level of the building would be leased out as office space. A major capital fund-raising campaign is scheduled to be launched in December, with the goal being occupancy of the facility in the fall of 1999. The feasibility study will include information on about other people’s visions for the facilities. Both the library and the museum have seen visits increase dramatically since they moved to their new, temporary locations in Village North. The Whistler Resort Association’s annual general meeting is 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15 in the Rainbow Theatre. The results of the mail-in votes for directorships will be announced and two bylaw amendments, dealing with timeshare terminology and with collecting interest on overdue accounts, will be introduced and voted on. All WRA members are invited. The Whistler Public Library, in co-operation with the British Columbia Library Association, is sponsoring a summer reading program for children living in or visiting Whistler. This year’s summer reading club, Bound for Adventure, provides an opportunity for parents to explore their children’s individual interests and to establish regular family reading times. Bound for Adventure reading club will meet on Tuesday evenings in August, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library. Activities will include games, crafts and films geared for children aged 5 to 9 years. There will be a reading club for pre-school children, aged 2 to 4 years, which will be held on Friday mornings in August from 10:30 to 11:30. To ensure adequate supplies for crafts the library asks that parents pre-register their children for this program. Forms are available from the library. Those interested in participating in the club can pick up registration at the library or call 932-5564 to pre-register. Registration begins June 24.
