The Whistler Mountain Ski Club’s annual Ski and Snowboard Swap will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in the Whistler Conference Centre. Skis, boots and snowboards will be accepted for the swap. Used clothing and unmounted bindings will not be accepted. Equipment check-in is from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, and from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 1. No equipment will be accepted after noon Saturday. Tags are $2 for each piece of equipment checked in. The ski club takes 15 per cent commission from each sale. All proceeds go to support the Whistler Mountain Ski Club’s junior racing program. A number of retail shops will be selling new and used goods at the swap, including Snow Covers, Wild Willies, Whistler Village Sports, McCoos, Swiss Sporthaus, Destination Ski, Sunique, Westside Ski, Beach Or Bust, Helly Hansen and North Shore Ski and Sailboard. Admission to the swap is $1. The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment recently honoured three long-time supporters. The Delta Whistler Resort, Whistler Office Services Ltd., and CompuServe Accounting Services Whistler Ltd. were presented with certificates of appreciation. The Delta has provided meeting space for AWARE for years, while Whistler Office Services and CompuServe provide services for the group. A recent letter to Whistler council proposing to build a 100-room hotel and destination casino on the Shoestring Lodge site drew a few snickers from council members. The proposal, by Richmond-based DHL Development Ltd., "to take Whistler into the 21st century as a resort municipality" was flatly rejected. Whistler has a bylaw prohibiting casinos. The proposal was also news to Ben Horne, owner of the Shoestring Lodge. Whistler council will report on its recent trip to Colorado and Idaho mountain resorts at its regular meeting Oct. 20.
