The Whistler Community Arts Council’s annual Bizarre Bazaar returns this Saturday, Dec. 6, at the conference centre. The Bizarre Bazaar, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., features works by local craftspeople and artisans, as well as works by artisans from other parts of B.C. It’s a great place to find some Christmas gift ideas and proceeds go to support the arts council’s programs. Those programs include the Whistler Children’s Arts Festival, held each summer, the fall and spring series of performances and art scholarships for Whistler and Pemberton students. In addition to arts and crafts for sale, the Girl Guides, Brownies, Pathfinders and Sparks will be selling Girl Guide Cookies at the Bizarre Bazaar. These are the mint Girl Guide Cookies, only available at Christmas time. The girls will also be running a fish pond at the bazaar, where kids can fish for a surprise catch. Profits go to the individual groups and to leadership support, such as first aid and Guider training. There are approximately 70 girls involved in Guiding in Whistler. The girls will also be selling cookies in front of the Grocery Store and the IGA on Saturday, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The Chateau Whistler Resort, which will celebrate the completion of its $45 million expansion next month, has been elected to membership in Leading Hotels of the World, which includes Claridges in London, the Peninsula in Hong Kong and the Ritz in Paris. Only 308 hotels in 68 countries belong to the Leading Hotels of the World group. They are selected after a vigorous inspection process by professional hoteliers. The Chateau has added 221 rooms, a new conference wing, is currently renovating La Fiesta which will emerge as Portobello, and expanded its spa facility.
