Management changes at Holiday Inn A familiar face at Whistler's Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort will be taking on a new and important position within the company — and not have to leave home to do it. Bruce Wienberg, general manager of the three-year-old hotel, will be starting a new job as account director for the Western Canada operations of Bass Hotels and Resorts, Holiday Inns' parent company. Wienberg, who has worked with the Whistler hotel for 19 months, will now be responsible for operations at 28 Holiday Inns and Crowne Plaza hotels from Manitoba to B.C. Better yet, he'll be able to continue to enjoy the Whistler area, working from a home office in Pemberton. Tim Campbell will be taking over as new general manager at the local Holiday Inn. Campbell has been in Whistler for a month, having previously worked at Holiday Inns in Victoria and Kelowna. Library gets unexpected bonus from Victoria The Whistler Public Library received a nice surprise from the provincial government last week with news of this year's operating grant funds. Librarian Joan Richoz said the facility was lucky enough to receive more cash from Victoria than expected, a welcome windfall after a period of financial uncertainty. "Last year, we were concerned about even getting a grant from the government, and this we got a little bit more than what was budgeted," Richoz said. The Whistler Public Library Association will receive $24,372 for the 1998/99 year, money Richoz said will be used for library operations only. The local cash is part of $8.2 million awarded to help fund 227 public library branches across the province. The Whistler Public Library will become a municipal library Jan. 1, 1999. The merchants of Nesters Plaza are preparing to host a customer appreciation day on Saturday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nesters Market will be hosting a barbecue, a three-piece band will be playing, street performers are scheduled to entertain and a pie-eating contest will be held at 3 p.m. Donations to the Disabled Skiers Association of B.C. will welcomed.
