The Delta Whistler Resort will be holding a unique tribute Feb. 6 to honour the memory of former sales manager Jennifer Jones. Jones was killed in a car accident on Highway 99 in December. The Delta will be re-launching and re-naming its fund to save the bears in Whistler, calling it the Jennifer Jones Whistler Bear Foundation. The hotel established the fund last summer to raise money for the relocation of bears that strayed into Whistler Village. A cheque for money raised to date will be presented to the foundation by Jennifer's mother. A plaque dedication, explaining the work of the foundation and re-naming the cedar cinnamon bear in the lobby of the Delta "Jenny Bear," will follow. The reception is at 5 p.m. Feb. 6 in the Delta, with a party and fund raiser in the Cinnamon Bear Bar to follow. Wedge Park will be the site of some limited development by the Parks and Recreation Department this summer. Wedge Park, the area opposite Alpine Meadows, between Highway 99 and Green Lake, is part of the Parks and Recreation Department's master plan. A wildlife corridor, running from Rainbow Park on Alta Lake north along the River of Golden Dreams, through Wedge Park to the old Rainbow site, is a key component of the master plan. Bill Barratt, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said development plans for Wedge Park are fairly limited and subject to a detailed environmental review. He said there may be a north-south trail through the lands and some type of bird conservation area. Whistler Mountain is offering daily complimentary tours of the Dave Murray World Cup downhill course starting this weekend. Experienced guides such as former Canadian national team member Chris Kent, Jacques Morel — who has coached six different World Cup teams — and Joze Sparovec, former head coach of the Yugoslav national team, will be conducting the tours. Course forerunner Tom Prochazka will lead the first tour on Saturday. The daily tours meet at 1 p.m. at the Guest Satisfaction Centre at the top of the Whistler Express Gondola.
