Council seeking nominations The Whistler Centre for Business and the Arts is now seeking nominations for the new Council For Sustainability. The CFS is looking for individuals from business, labour, government, First Nations, youth and non-governmental organizations around the province willing to serve as individuals — not as representatives of interest groups — and without pay. The CFS was formed earlier this year to fill the sustainability mandate left in limbo when the province withdrew funding for the B.C. Round Table on the Environment and the Economy and the B.C. Energy Council. The deadline for nominations is May 17. Nomination packages are available through the Whistler Centre for Business and the Arts. Adams new president Whistler's Sue Adams is the new president of the Western Businesswomen's Association of Vancouver and Whistler. Adams is vice president of Bevendale Enterprises, which operates The Grocery Store and the Upper Village Market, and president of The Amorous Oyster Restaurant in Vancouver. She and husband Bob received the Canadian Independent Grocers of the Year Award last October. The next meeting of the Whistler chapter of the Western Businesswomen's Association is May 11 at the Delta Whistler Resort and will feature Pat Richard and Frank Franchini of Whistler Networks. Nancy Greene Raine received the 1995 Golden Quill Award from the North American Ski Journalists Association at the association's annual meeting last month in Banff. The award recognizes contributions made to the progress of skiing in North America. She is the first Canadian to win the award. Tourism British Columbia has formed a marketing partnership with American Express to further develop the province's SuperHost program. Amex will also provide marketing support for B.C. tourism campaigns in the U.S. and Asia. In return Amex gains the right to export SuperHost to Asia. The Sea to Sky Economic Development Commission has received two awards from the American Economic Development Council during the council's 70th annual conference in Orlando, Florida. The commission received one award in the Superior category (radio/television) for the Sea to Sky Business Report, from June 1994, which focussed on retail trends and tourism development. The second Superior award was in the research category for The Lower Mainland Industrial Market and Implications for the Squamish Industrial Park. A total of 800 submissions were made from across North America.
