Club Earth, the youth environmental club, is holding an organizing meeting Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help out with the curriculum, plans for the coming year and other facets of the program. Club Earth meets once a week at Myrtle Philip Community School, after regular school hours. Anyone interested in helping out can call 932-5327 for further details and the location of the organizing meeting. Eight recipients chosen Eight groups have been chosen as beneficiaries of the 1995 Festival of Lights, the Association of Whistler Realtors' annual gala fund raising event. The Whistler Firefighters Association, Whistler Search and Rescue, Pemberton district Search and Rescue, Big Brothers & Sisters of Whistler/Pemberton, Whistler Disabled Ski Club, Victim Services, Whistler Youth Crisis Line and the Pemberton Gymnastics Club will receive the proceeds from this year's dinner and auction, on Nov. 25. Most of the groups will use the money for equipment or for continuing services. The firefighters will build a Fire Safety Awareness House at the Alpine Meadows Fire Hall. The Festival of Lights has been organized by Whistler realtors for the last five years. The objective of the festival is to encourage Whistler businesses and homeowners to decorate their premises prior to the American Thanksgiving to give the resort a festive look. The festival concludes with a gala dinner, dance and auction, which will be held at the conference centre. Whistler Mountain is offering a 1995-96 Creekside season pass as incentive for naming the new runs the lift company is cutting from West Bowl to the Creekside. The runs will consist of two main trails and two connecting routes between the trails. Names will be needed for all four runs. All entries must be received by Aug. 25. There is no limit to the number of entries each person can make. WMSC offering trail rides Whistler Mountain is now in the trail ride business. Guided horseback trail rides are available daily in the alpine area. A stable has been set up near the top of the Green Chair, at the 6,030 foot elevation. The featured ride goes from the corral up to Little Whistler, providing views of Black Tusk, the Musical Bumps and the Coat Mountain Range. The ride begins at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily and takes about one-and-a-half hours. It costs $35 plus GST.
