Crossing Village Gate Boulevard will, temporarily, be a little more difficult. The existing pedestrian bridge over Village Gate Boulevard will be removed shortly and be used next spring to replace the wooden bridge spanning Fitzsimmons Creek near the cross-country ski ticket hut. A permanent pedestrian bridge over Village Gate Boulevard will be built by Appia Developments. Construction will take approximately four weeks. The work will be done later this month or in October. Get SAFE The SAFE, Whistler's first-ever healthy sexuality centre is in need of volunteers to continue operating. The SAFE has been operating since last winter and is operating a Planned Parenthood Branch and providing other services such as low cost birth control and sexually transmitted disease screening. SAFE organizers are looking for a volunteer receptionist and some volunteer help to raise awareness about the centre, which has kept a low profile since its inception. To volunteer call 932-3202. Blackcomb’s summer season ended Monday with a record total of 107,197 visitors for the three-month season. David Barry, Blackcomb’s director of marketing, says new interpretive hiking trails were well received this summer. Blackcomb staff are now preparing for the ski season, which will see the introduction of a new beginner area, three new beginner lifts and new black diamond gladed skiing. Raceline Auto Services lived up to its name on the Long Weekend. According to owner and motorcycle racer Craig Randell, he received approval last Friday to move his garage to the vacant Husky Service Station bays. After three days of hard work and a coat of paint, Randell opened for business Tuesday in his new Creekside location. Five outdated municipal computers will distributed to four organizations. The Emergency Social Services program will receive two, while the Museum and Archives Society, Dandelion Daycare Society and Dr. Ernie Ledgerwood, on behalf of the Richard Heine Fund and the Whistler Rotary Club, will each receive one computer. The deck surfaces of the Nineteen Mile Creek and Fitzsimmons Creek bridges will be resurfaced by the end of October. The work will take approximately three weeks. The bridges will be reduced to one lane of traffic while the work is being done.
