WRA taking members on line The Whistler Resort Association is going on line. An all-members meeting is scheduled for early in the new year to receive input from members and answer questions regarding the WRA’s Internet program. The program will include a list of all WRA members, their mailing addresses, contact names, e-mail addresses and up to 35 words describing their businesses. The WRA recently entered into a pilot project involving BC Tel Advanced Communications, BC Tourism and other marketing regions of the province. Whistler Networks upgrading Whistler Networks, which established Internet service in Whistler in November 1994, is expanding its capabilities. Whistler Networks will have 20 dial-in lines from Whistler by the end of January, a new 1-800 number for customer support, and is increasing the bandwidth to its main servers from T1 to dual E1. The increased bandwidth will increase Whistler Networks’ capacity from 100,000 calls per day to about 500,000 per day. In addition to the new hardware a new and improved World Wide Web interface should be up and running by the second week of January. As well, the first stage of a new real-time property management and reservation system will be unveiled in January. Finally, TOURBC, a World Wide Web site designed by Whistler Networks with travel information about B.C., will go on line in January. New Year’s Eve winners Whistler resident Van Powel and his wife are the winners of the Delta Whistler Resort-Pique Newsmagazine New Year’s Eve contest. Powel’s name was selected from the many hundreds of ballots submitted in the draw. The couple wins a pair of tickets to the Delta’s New Year’s Eve party and will have a chance to win two return air tickets to Hong Kong, in conjunction with Delta Hotels in Vancouver. The party at the Delta starts at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
