Whistler’s Parks and Recreation Department has come up with a novel way to beat the mid-winter blues: A Broomball Bash/Grunge and Plunge. The Bash/Plunge takes place on the evening of Feb. 9 at the Meadow Park Sports Centre. Broomball takes place in the arena from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and there’s free hot chocolate for all participants. From 8 to 9 p.m. the Grunge and Plunge involves skateboard dives into the pool. Bring your own board; helmets are mandatory. The Parks and Rec. Department advises that Plungers can wear any type of clothes they like, but clean clothes would be preferred. There will also be plenty of draw prizes. Bring your own music. Some on-air personalities at Mountain FM are moving to sister station CKWX in Vancouver for that station’s new all-news format. Darren Butler, Mountain FM’s mid-day man, weekend news man Jim Patton and morning maven Carrie Candido are all heading to WX. Spring is still nearly two months away, but it’s not too soon to start thinking about bears coming out of hibernation, and the man-bear conflicts that can happen. The Jennifer Jones Bear Foundation, which was set up to try and prevent those conflicts, wants to let people know about a film that will be on the Knowledge Network Feb. 8. The Future of the B.C. Grizzly Bear, a film by Terry Halleran, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Whistler has made a few appearances on TV this week. The Entertainment Tonight segment with Baywatch star David Chokachi aired Jan. 30 on KIRO and UTV. CNN’s Linden Soles included a brief profile of the resort on his live program Wednesday night. And KIRO TV’s morning show 7 Live aired a Whistler special Feb. 1 and 2 at 7 and 9 a.m. The "Extra" Whistler special airs Feb. 28 and the Beverly Hills 90210 episode with Jason Priestly wearing Whistler clothing will be broadcast Feb. 21.
