McIvor’s win condo Whistler’s McIvor family won the Blackcomb Springs condo in the Win A Condo at Whistler lottery put on by the two local ski clubs. Brent McIvor, whose daughters race with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club, bought a ticket the day before the draw was to be made last week. Earlier he had spent the day selling tickets at a table the ski club had set up in the village. The Win A Condo at Whistler lottery raises about $100,000 for the Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Ski Club programs. Three named to TAG Mike Banner, Jan Pezarro and Tim Wake will sit on the municipality’s Transportation Advisory Group as members at large, and resort consultant Paul Mathews was also asked to join the group. Banner is an owner of Glacier Coach Lines, Pezarro used to work for BC Transit and Wake is the owner of the local Rogers Chocolates store. There were 12 applicants for the three at large positions. Other members of the advisory group include councillor Bill Murray, Scott Carrell of Blackcomb, Doug Forseth of Whistler Mountain, Barrett Fisher of the Whistler Resort Association and the Chamber of Commerce’s Rick Clare. $17,000 for parking survey The municipality will be spending $17,000 on a one-day parking lot monitoring program, to be done in the last week of March. The study will undertake a detailed survey of parking lot use, determine the origin and destination of motorists, determine the split between employees and visitors, determine vehicle occupancy rates and update the parking survey done for Blackcomb in March 1993. The Transportation Advisory Group feels the parking lot study is crucial to determining the parameters of Whistler’s transportation and parking problems. The 1993 one-day study had a budget of $17,500. Room nights up A record 80,773 room nights were sold in February, reflecting an increase of 20 per cent over last February, according to the Whistler Resort Association. The 1995-96 winter season shows an overall year-to-date increase of 8 per cent over 1994-95.
