Ron Hosner was elected chair of the Creekside Merchants Association May 17. Hosner, of Hoz’s Cafe and Pub, takes over from Kirk Aulin, formerly of Boston Pizza, who had held the position since the group’s formation in January 1993. Gordon McKeever of Whistler Resort and Club continues as vice chair and Lynn Ledgerwood continues as secretary-treasurer. Hosner has a long history of activity in Whistler and is currently vice president of the Chamber of Commerce. After a devastating year due to the closure of Whistler Mountain’s Quicksilver lift, the Creekside area is expecting a turnaround over the next 18 months. Whistler Mountain is putting in a six-passenger gondola at Whistler Creek this summer, the municipality is installing storm sewers and other improvements on Lake Placid Road this summer, and work may begin next summer on Whistler Mountain’s redevelopment of the Creekside area. The Whistler Valley Quilters’ Guild is having its first quilt show June 8-9 at Blackcomb’s Kids Kamp facility. Among the displays at Quilts in the Mountain will be a raffle quilt, which viewers are encouraged to buy a ticket for. The proceeds will go to the Whistler Public Library, Whistler Search and Rescue and the Blackcomb Foundation. A display of Challenge Quilts will be one of the features of the show. Quilters all received the same package of three fabrics and were allowed to add up to three more fabrics of their choice and then make a quilt to certain size specifications. Viewers will also be asked to vote for their favourite quilt at the show. Admission is $3. The show will go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 8, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9.
