Magicians from Vancouver and Whistler will join actor/painter Tony Curtis and CKNW’s Rick Honey in a magic show at the Plaza Gallery tonight, July 5, at 6 p.m. Curtis, who played Harry Houdini in the a feature film about the famous magician, has been interested in magic for years. He will take part in some of the illusions. Honey will host the show, which is free. Everyone is welcome. The Sea to Sky Trail Society will be hosting its annual general meeting in conjunction with their first open house on Friday, July 5, at 7 p.m. in the Empress C Room at the Chateau Whistler Resort. The open house and annual general meeting is to offer members of the public an opportunity to become better informed about both the progress and potential of the trail development project. Society directors will showcase a comprehensive proposal and maps for the dedicated recreation and alternative transportation route which will link the Sea to Sky corridor from D’Arcy to Squamish. Key stakeholders involved in the process will also be identified. The society is also seeking new directors and members. A slide show at the meeting will highlight the trail itself and the inaugural Sea to Sky Mountain Bike Trail Ride, a non-competitive ride, on July 13 and 14. The two-day ride is an opportunity for mountain bike enthusiasts to experience the trail with others. Dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets may be liable to a $25 fine. Whistler council passed an amendment to the dog owner bylaw Tuesday giving bylaw officers the authority to issue $25 fines. However, the fines will only be a last resort. The Parks Department has installed animal waste bag dispensers in most municipal parks and additional signs will be put up to encourage pet owners to clean up after their animals. A bylaw officer has been assigned regularly patrol parks and public places to enforce the bylaw. Fines will only be issued if dog owners refuse to comply.
