Learning for profit The Whistler Chamber of Commerce wants to help small businesses turn the challenge of operating in a mature resort into an opportunity at a workshop, April 29, at the conference centre. The workshop is co-sponsored by the Whistler Resort Association. "Getting together to talk about what works," is the sub-title of the event, aimed at developing a set of blueprints for small business activities and programs that will assist businesses operating under the pressure of the current growth explosion. There is no fee for the workshop. The workshop has a history. The Chamber organized a similar workshop in 1991 at Brew Creek called "The State of Whistler — where do we go from here." Ideas from that seminal meeting became the framework for Chamber planning to the present. Calling all canvassers The Canadian Cancer Society will have its first annual canvass program in Whistler and is sending the call out for interested parties to become neighbourhood canvassers. Used clothing wanted Katmandu Sports in Function Junction is seeking donations of used clothing for Haven Family Services of Vancouver, which operates several juvenile shelters. The Whistler Angling Club is holding its annual general meeting at Myrtle Philip Community School March 10, 7 p.m. Information on upcoming derbies and events, a discussion of projects for 1997, the election of officials and lots of other good stuff are on the agenda.
