Christmas Showcase in Pemberton With less than eight weeks before Christmas, the home-based businesses in and around Pemberton have joined forces to create the first Pemberton's Home Business Christmas Showcase. Held at the Santa Fe Station restaurant, Sunday, Nov. 9, between noon and 4 p.m., early Christmas shoppers will have a chance to purchase unique and interesting gifts and services. Fifteen booths are expected to offer a mini trade fair including wares from Please Mum Trading Company (children's clothes), Partylite (candles and accessories), Tupperware, Princess House Crystals, Avon, Usborne Books (educational children's books), Douglas Trail Cottage Crafts, Sharon's Lotions & Potions, and Usana Nutritional Supplements. There will be a raffle draw of a basket containing a selection of gifts from participating businesses, and the Santa Fe will serve Christmas drink specials to whet the gift buying appetite. There's space left, too, if other home-based businesses want to join in. Tables are $20 and can be reserved by calling Bettina Falloon (894-6130) or Debbie Robinson (894-5885). Squamish fisheries forum Nov. 27-30 The decline in salmon and steelhead populations has spurred the Squamish River Watershed Fisheries Sustainability Forum as a meeting of all interested parties to develop a fisheries strategy, Nov. 27-30, in Squamish. The meeting has several objectives. The first is to bring together concerned citizens, including policy makers, resource users and First Nations people, to exchange information on the conservation and restoration of salmonid populations. Second, the forum hopes to arrive at a long-term vision for fisheries sustainability in the watershed, identify the factors that are limiting that vision and develop ways to overcome those limitations. A planning committee includes representatives from 23 "stakeholders," including the B.C. Wildlife Federation, B.C. Hydro, Soo Coalition, Squamish Nation, Interfor and a variety of local conservation groups. The forum consists of plenary and technical sessions, as well as workshops. There are fees to be part of the forum, depending on which days and individual or corporate status is applied for. For more information, fax your inquiries to (604) 685-5373.
