Make a Weasel feel wanted Organizers of the Hongkong Bank Whistler Ski Classic are throwing a party for anyone who wants to meet members of the Canadian Alpine Ski team. While the Nov. 23 party at Dusty’s will feature Brian Stemmle, Cary Mullen, Edi Podivinsky and others, it’s really a chance to help out the Weasel Workers, the people who prepare the course for the World Cup races. You see, entrance to the party is donation of a prize of at least $50 value, or cash. The cash will be used to buy more items, which will be given away as door prizes to the Weasel Workers at a post-race appreciation party. The Dusty’s party, which begins at 8 p.m., is the race organizing committee’s attempt to give something back to the business owners and locals who contribute prizes each year and to raise a toast to Whistler and the race. For more information call 892-5675. The Whistler AIDS Prevention Program is planning its annual condom campaign for Dec. 12-18. Volunteers are needed to distribute condoms and a safer sex message to Whistler residents at staff housing and participating local bars. Volunteers must be comfortable speaking with others about proper use of condoms, about sexually transmitted diseases and about HIV. Training for volunteers will take place at the Whistler Health Care Centre on Tuesday, Dec. 9, between 8 and 9:30 p.m. If interested in volunteering, leave a message for Sue Clarkson at the SAFE clinic: 932-3202. Basic sign language and visual communication for children, their parents and professionals is being offered at the Whistler Health Care Centre. A meeting to discuss visual and auditory environments is being held Friday, Nov. 14, between 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the health care centre. Call Nathalie Klein at 932-3344 if you’re interested.
