Developer may provide housing Developers of Lot 19 in Village North, a retail/lodge building on Main Street, have requested rezoning to allow the top level of the building to be used for employee housing. Raymond Rodgers, planning consultant for Taiwan developer Sung-lin Lien, says the request is in response to the Whistler Valley Housing Society’s call for developers to provide employee housing rather than cash in lieu. "It would not be a profit centre," Rodgers says of the 10 units which would provide 30 beds, enough for all the employees the building would generate. "We don’t want to be perceived as part of the problem. The developer has a conscience," Rodgers adds. If the rezoning is not approved the developer will revert to the original plan to make the entire lodge portion of the building commercial accommodation. Construction of the project is expected to begin in the spring. Names rejected The Whistler Racquet and Golf Resort is being asked to consider other names for the streets that will be built within its site after council rejected Montebello Place, Montebello Drive and Montebello Crescent. Councillor Dave Kirk asked if "more native" names couldn’t be used, to which Mayor Ted Nebbeling replied: "Like Sarajevo?" New names approved for streets in Green Lake Estates (Nicklaus North Golf Course) include Nicklaus North Boulevard, Mount Currie Lane, Armchair Crescent and Golden Dreams Drive. Council requested that the developers consider a name other than Green Lake Place for the fifth street in the subdivision.
