NimbyFifty sells out

Kerr, Pendrel dominate Pemberton mountain bike epic
62712_l

Up and coming racer Colin Kerr of Bowen Island/North Vancouver has made a name for himself in a few short years with solid results in events like the Test of Metal, GearJammer and B.C. Bike Race. He can now add the first ever NimbyFifty title to his list of accomplishments after blazing through the roughly 37 km course in 2:14:58, almost four minutes faster than Victoria's Carter Hovey (2:18:42).

Neal Kindree, who started to race again at the end of last season after a serious knee injury, placed third in 2:20:42 and was the top Sea to Sky rider in the competition. Matt Bodkin was seventh overall, the top rider from Whistler in 2:22:27, while Kevin Phelps on his hardtail was the first Pemberton racer in 15 th overall in 2:34:48.

Kamloops' Catharine Pendrel, fresh off a World Cup cross-country win that put her on top of the UCI standings, placed 14 th overall with a time of 2:29:31 - not too bad considering she didn't know any of the trails.

Wendy Simms of Nanaimo, a new mother, was the second-fastest female rider in 2:52:32, while Megan Rose of North Vancouver - and formerly Whistler - placed third in 2:54:15.

In the end, the race more than hit its limit of 200 riders with 151 men turning out and 38 women. Over 40 men and women didn't show up to ride, although the rain held off and the course conditions were generally good despite the recent rain - maybe even better than the usually hot, dry and dusty conditions that Pemberton is famous for.
