Ninth Sea to Sky Film Fest tonight

The ninth annual Sea to Sky Film Festival will take place in the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish this Friday, Sept. 24th at 7 p.m.

There are 13 short films entered in this year’s festival, representing a dynamic and diverse showcase of excellent filmmaking from the around the globe.

The films will compete in the drama, comedy, documentary and experimental category. A panel of judges will be awarding the winning films.

This event will be hosted by Steve Hainsworth of Mountain FM . Tickets are $8 adults and $5 for students and seniors and are available at the door. For more info call Adriane Polo at 604-898-5930.

LanternArt Walk Saturday

The second annual Squamish LanternArt Walk will take place in downtown Squamish, along the estuary trails, Saturday, Sept. 25.

Last month volunteers began making hundreds of lanterns for the walk at a series of workshops. The work has continued this month.

Lanterns have been hung in shop windows since Sept. 17, creating a festive atmosphere in the downtown area.

The Squamish LanternArt Walk is presented by Pam Tattersfield and Jane Iverson in partnership with Squamish Volunteer Centre and The Hot Spot.

Underwater view of marine parks

B.C. land-base parks have existed for decades, but ocean "parks" are new creations. Meet two of the people responsible for the creation of B.C.’s Marine Protected Areas at a slide show presentation in Squamish Sept. 30.

Andy Lamb, a marine biologist and author, and Bernie Hanby, an underwater photographer, will be presenting Magic and Struggle; Marine Protected Areas Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Howe sound Inn and Brewing Company.

The presentation is sponsored by the Squamish Estuary Conservation Society and the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company. Admission is free but donations are welcome.
