Bylaws to downzone the Nita Lake lands, which had been the subject of a townhouse proposal, received third reading from council this week. Andrew Crosse had proposed developing the lands, two parcels between the Alpine 68 and Whistler Alpine Village condominiums. One of the parcels had RM1 zoning which would allow some development, while the second parcel had basic RR1 zoning. Crosse had requested the RM1 zoning be extended over both parcels. However, municipal planning staff discovered the RM1 zoning had been created through a mapping error and the RM1 zoning was never intended for either parcel. Council has now returned the land to RR1 zoning. The Nita Lake Syndicate, which owns the two properties has threatened to sue the municipality over the downzoning. Crosse has also filed a claim against the municipality for costs incurred in his proposal.
