Whistler has it all and a number one rating Even more outside confirmation of Whistler’s status as the number one place to be: the October issue of Skiing Magazine ranks Whistler/Blackcomb as the number one ski area overall, number two for steeps, third best party ski town and seventh for powder skiing. Skiing Magazine is the second-most read snow sports magazine in Canada and this number one rating is listed in their first ever Adventure Guide. Skiing’s number one ranking comes after Mountain Sports and Living (formerly Snow Country) rated Whistler/Blackcomb number one in North America for the seventh straight year. Ski magazine ranked Whistler/Blackcomb fifth this year. Editor in Chief Rick Kahl says Skiing reformatted its travel guide and created an adventure guide because adventure is what people are really looking for. "Skiing Magazine is the magazine of winter adventure and we wanted to show people that very cool adventures are much more accessible than they thought," says Kahl. David Perry, vice president of marketing and sales at Whistler/Blackcomb, says this latest magazine ranking is especially meaningful for the mountains. "This particular number one rating is special to us because Skiing Magazine is positioned as a ‘real skiers’ magazine, for the passionate enthusiast and adventurer. This is exactly Whistler/Blackcomb’s strength and we are very pleased that the experts at Skiing Magazine have given us this endorsement." The layout of the October issue has the sections of the adventure guide divided into three: Little Gems, Skier’s Mountains and Mountain Playgrounds. Each section opens with an essay arguing the virtues of each type. Whistler/Blackcomb was rated the best overall and one of the best mountain playground resorts. The magazine states: "Whistler delivers it all; high Alpine basins, 50-degree couloirs, wicked tree skiing and multiple half-pipes and terrain parks... and then there’s Whistler Village, a destination in itself, with 97 restaurants, several day spas, more than 100 hotels, and the liveliest late night club scene of any ski town north of Argentina." Tommy Africa’s is cited as the best place to witness young, nubile babes shaking their groove thing. And standing in line for Whistler’s Peak chair watching people huck themselves off Air Jordan and Waterfall is described as the best lift-line entertainment on a powder day.
