Who: Joe Trio

Where: MY Place

When: Saturday, April 5

Joe Trio does not like to be categorized as just a piano and string band. Oh no, they are much more than that. One gloss over their "other" job commitments and you can see they bring a breadth of experience and arrangements that belie their simple set-up. Their musical motto is focused around diversity, versatility and more than a little unpredictability at each and every show.

Their repertoire includes the whole shebang of showmanship. They cover the classics like Haydn and Shostakovich, to new works by contemporary composers, and even their own imaginative arrangements of popular jazz and rock tunes.

Since Joe Trio was formed in 1989, this classically trained violin-cello-piano threesome has performed concerts across Canada from their home city Vancouver right through to Newfoundland, and in the United States from Washington to Maine. They appear regularly with the Little Chamber Music Series That Could Society and have been heard on radio throughout North America. If you listen to shows like Morningside, Disc Drive, The Music Room and West Coast Performance, you’ll no doubt have hummed along to their stuff and perhaps even bought their CD, titled A Cup of Joe .

The breakdown of Joe Trio is eclectic. Cameron Wilson is on violin. He is currently a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Celtic-Funk Bank. He is also a freelance composer and arranger. Cellist Laura McPheeters has presented concerts around the world. She performs regularly in Vancouver with the ensembles of the Little Chamber Music Series That Could Society, Current Sound Opera(tions), and other chamber groups. She also teaches at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Pianist Allen Stiles also performs with many of Vancouver’s musicians and recently became involved in musical theatre, playing in the Canadian and international productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera , Music of the Night and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat .
