WAG hosts Volksmarch around Lost Lake

Man’s best friend could also become your drinking buddy this Oktoberfest, as WAG hosts its inaugural Volksmarch this Saturday, Oct. 11.

A Volksmarch is part of Oktoberfest celebrations in Europe, where it is a walk for fitness, friendship and nature.

To participate, drop by the WAG shelter – in the dayskier parking lot – any time between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday to register in the Volksmarch. Walkers can leave at any time but Miss Oktoberfest will be taking a stroll with a WAG dog at 9:45 a.m.

Participation is by donation, and the first 50 people to sign up will receive a commemorative Whistler Oktoberfest beer tasting glass. In addition, there will be best costume prizes for the top two-legged and four-legged walkers in the Oktoberfest theme.

Bring your dog, or borrow a friend’s dog or a WAG dog, and come out for the stroll, which goes around Lost Lake and back to the Upper Village at Blackcomb, where WAG will feature a mini-market of animal related and logo merchandise at the Farmers’ Market. There will also be a raffle for a Whistler-Blackcomb season’s pass. Raffle tickets are $20 for the prize that gives back all season long.

If you have any questions, contact the WAG shelter at 604-905-7750.
